My great niece is running in a race at her elementary school at month’s end and sure enough, she is seeking sponsors for the Fun Run. Of COURSE being her great aunt (and her Great Aunt), I am pledging to her drive. As I was checking out of the donation shopping cart, I was alerted that for just $25 more she could win a “Scented Sensory Super Hero Ball!” WELL, then, that calls for some further info. Google me, Batgirl!
One of the original scented sensory balls I found is a development toy for children and is marketed primarily to toddlers to enhance their fine motor skills. (But who wouldn’t love a nubby rubber ball (BPA-free) that you can squish over and over again to play with on stress-filled days?) The company, Edushape, offers a range of other products, including a set of “Boho Chic” balls (and yes, I was tempted). The OG comes in two scents — Strawberry and Vanilla. But a deeper dive into — yeah, you guessed it, Amazon — revealed other products, including “Smelly Ballz Gourmet-Scented Stress Balls for Kids and Adults” with six “unique aromas” (strawberry, orange, pineapple, watermelon, blueberry, and grape … not so unique, but the name is catchy …)
I don’t know what scent my great niece will receive. Other companies offer lavender-scented sensory balls. But I think I’ll stick to the natural essential oil.
Oh, and did I increase the pledge so our 8-year-old star could get the prize? But of course! You can never start too early to introduce children to the world of scent!
